Holiday Inn

Posted on: Sunday, December 24th, 2006 in: Music

Tonight my family and I are settling toward another Christmas. As we do we’ll probably watch White Christmas or Holiday Inn.
For my money, you can’t beat Bing Crosby and the smooth baritone as he croons that holiday classic. I love the flick.
Hope you and yours have a happy holiday.

Concert Vault

Posted on: Thursday, December 21st, 2006 in: Music

Some of you may know about Concert Vault, but for those who haven’t it’s time for a wakeup. Concert Vault is a website that streams classic concerts from a variety of artists–I’m listening to the Elvis Costello from 1978 right now. Heavily slanted toward recordings from the 70s at places like the Fillmore […]

Speaking of Grammys

Posted on: Friday, December 15th, 2006 in: Music

While on the subject of Grammy’s I have to give some credit to Guy Clark, whose latest disc is nominated for a Grammy. While this one disc I’ve yet to hear, I can’t say enough about Guy Clark whose is a true songwriting legend, American artistic master and genuine man in an industry where […]

Clueless?

Posted on: Friday, December 15th, 2006 in: Music

I stumbled upon Suite 101 while searching for something original for the first night of Hanukkah. While there I noticed they have bloggers covering everything from fashion to…you guessed it…country music.
The bloke covering country music is Chris Sanders and he’s got a post called “Grammy’s vs. Country Radio” in which he ponders why the […]

Thanks Sparky

My pal Steve Hassenplug is always on the lookout for good tunes. His own blog can be quite good as well, but I digress.
From an email from Sparky today:
Yesterday on MySpace, I received an add request from another Nashville-based artist whose name I didn’t know previously. And, not only is he apparently connected […]

The Road to Escondido

Posted on: Wednesday, December 13th, 2006 in: CD Reviews

What is there left to say about a man who has being deified by his fans? How about coming up with something to new to describe a songwriter so gifted to have penned songs that are among the greatest rock songs ever?
That’s the task when writing about Eric Clapton and J.J. Cale and their […]

BMI Explores Alt-Country

Posted on: Monday, December 4th, 2006 in: Music

BMI is exploring country-rock connections in their most recent podcast. Featured is Eli Young among others. It’s certainly worth a listen.
Disclaimer: I’m a BMI artist. Take it for what it’s worth because there’s one of us on every corner.

Radio Free Texas

Posted on: Monday, December 4th, 2006 in: Music

I should be working but there’s no way I can handle it anymore without some decent music.
Luckily my inbox had a referral to Radio Free Texas. Mostly Texan artists and a few Oklahomans, but all good. All’s good with a groove now. Upcoming artists in the playlist include Radney Foster, Eli Young, […]
