What is Sharkbitten?  What does it have to do with music?

Great questions and the easiest answer would be that I thought it sounded cool. The truth is that unlike many other endeavors in life, selecting the name was a somewhat contemplative situation.  I’m a visual guy so let me try to illustrate how we landed with this absurd name.

Do you remember the first time you drove a car?  How about your wedding day?  The birth of your first child?  Of course you do–those are life defining moments.  I had driven a car but never experienced the other things when I started writing about music.  In fact I’d experienced lots of things I didn’t think I’d live through.  For instance, I was struck by lightning as a teenager, drove a race car, and seen half of this country.  Eventually I’d do those other more important things like falling in love, getting married and having a baby, but at the moment those things I was lucky enough to experience defined me.

What stuck with me about each of those experiences is that music had played a vital role in many of my memories.  Those experiences were linked with music that was the soundtrack of my life.  They still are–I can tell you there’s even a playlist on my iPod that are songs my wife and I found comforting during the 9 months leading up to the birth of my daughter.

Not to belittle those so unfortunately involved in shark attacks, but one would certain remember being bitten by a shark were they lucky enough to survive.  I remember all of the important events in my life (often through a piece of music).  Naturally, I wanted to be that lucky with music–I want to seek out and find music so memorable to my life that they were tattooed on my soul.

So there it is folks:  the foolish but true story of our humble origins.
